No check in this week. It isn't important.
If you're local, you probably know all about the levy giving way in Millington and about the base and a good chunk of the south side of town getting flooded out Saturday. I'm fine, so's Trudy, Mike and all our respective fur-children. We live on the east side of the base, on higher ground, so flooding wasn't really an issue for our area. Getting in and out of our neighborhood was tricky, however.
It's a disaster area, literally. I know there are parts of Frayser that are just as bad, and I'm sure other places in the greater Memphis area as well. So many people lost everything, and I'm sure next to none of them have flood insurance, because Memphis isn't a "flood zone"- even though it's more prone to flash floods then any other place I've lived.
Three families with whom I am well and personally acquainted have found themselves homeless, car-less, and with a goodly amount of their personal possessions lost or not salvageable.
valarltd consolidated the need list, and I'm reposting it here.
We need, overall
Kids clothes:
Size 3t girl (toddler)
7/8 girl
14 husky boy
Adults
14-16 pant and XL top
38/34 pants, XL shirt
Family 1's home is gone, from all reports. Gift cards from Walmart, Lowes/Home Depot, Target, or anyplace else that might help them get into a new place would help. If you want to help in any way, message me and I will either get you contact information, or I can get items to them.
Family 2:
Women's Jeans/Shorts/ Etc - Size 18ish (Some stretch to the fabric, tshirt shorts, etc)
Women's Shirts - XL XXL (Prefers big baggie Tshirts)
Pj pants - XL XXL
Pants - 32/30
Shirts - Large
Their home was flooded out but is savable. Their clothes and such were still
lost so gift cards from Lowes, Walmart, Target or one of the pet supply
places would be useful. She is an artist, so gift cards from Michaels would be nice, also. If you want to help in any way, message me and I will either get you contact information, or I can get items to them. A donation link for this family is here: http://community.livejournal.com/saveours00j/47163.html
Family 3:
They've got a flood damaged/destroyed car and have damage to their home.
Mechanical help and gift cards from Lowes or Walmart would be of help. If you want to help in any way, message me and I will either get you contact information, or I can get items to them.
