Recommended for lovers of: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Black Cauldron (Tales of Pyrdain), and The Grey King. * If you like Harry Potter you may like it as well, though I feel that The Abhorsen Trilogy is geared to an older audience than the Potter books were originally intended. In fact, Sabriel was not originally classified as young adult.
Lirael, Daughter of the Clayr, and Abhorsen are the 2nd and 3rd books respectively in Garth Nix’s Abhorsen Trilogy, which began in 1996 with Sabriel.. It is not necessary to read Sabriel prior to reading Lirael, though doing so is helpful in understanding the world and motivations of the characters. However, whereas Sabriel is a stand alone tale, Lirael and Abhorsen contain not two stories but one. In order to judge either book individually, it is necessary to examine them both as a whole.

a book I enjoyed very, very much. The sequel has been sitting on
the bookshelf for 2 years, unread. I really have no idea why I
haven't read it yet. But I recently re-read Sabriel for the first time in a ling while, so I think it's time.
