...screeching as only a Geeky Gamer Chick&trade can.

Remember awhile back when I posted about needing a copy of Plague and Pestilence? Well, [livejournal.com profile] ravynfyre snagged me one on Ebay. Now she told me about it, so I knew it was coming.

What I didn't know was that it was the original release from Hillary's Toybox. Still. In. Box. Not sealed, mind you, but it looks almost brand new, still has the dice, and even the old T-shirt mail away coupon!

So now I have both Plague and Pestilence and Pirate's Plunder in their original formats from the original manufacturer. Time for the Happy Gamer Dance!

Is anyone on here a fan of Archie Comics? Or have kids who might read them? I love them, and still get the digests every month. Which means that I've accumulated a huge stack of back issues.

So, if you want them, or know someone who does, let me know. I'll ship them gratis.

Bullet points, because I have a ton of stuff to do that does not involve posting to LJ.

- Still soda free. Had about three days of hard withdrawal (and I do mean hard) but not as bad as it could have been.

- I am now noticing a change in palate since stopping sodas. I'm finding myself less and less inclined toward sweet drinks of any sort, or sweets in general.

- Carbonated water tastes awful to me now.

- Ani Wreck-gar is nesting in my head, and fighting with Ani Blackarachnia for dominance.

- I do better on my To Do list when I write it in my notebook Vs. creating a list on the computer

- I am apparently not working Gen-Con this year. Thanks soooo much for not letting me know that, even though I scheduled time off since I've worked it for the past six years, guys. /sarcasm EDIT: I'm still not working it, but I do know why now, and apparently the e-mail about it was eaten by the net.

- Zoo pictures good

- work gripe\ Do not mark something off as done on the damn checklist until you physically do it. I get annoyed when I see something checked off, but find it undone when doing a pass of the floor. / work gripe

- work gripe 2\ We are a casual place to work. That does not mean you lean all over the counter or run around without your shoes on. Yes, I know I'm not a manager. Yes, my feet and back hurt, too. I don't care. Put your damn shoes on! /work gripe 2

- Tea straight from China, along w/ other goodies. [livejournal.com profile] darkfire_blade rocks!

and....I think that about does it for now. TTFN!

Seems there's a bill (technically two) being fast-tracked in Congress that severely alters the way copyright law will work. So far, what I'm reading does not thrill my soul, as it seems to essentially open up any "found" artwork or photos to general use. In theory, it's clarification of Fair Use; in reality...it seems to remove the right of the independent artist to protect their work, unless they officially register the work as "theirs." And it affects art of all kinds- illustration, fine art, photography, graphic design, your online photo album- all unregistered works would be considered "orphaned" upon passing of the bill, and thus Fair Use applies. There's some recourse available, but not enough to be worth the trouble.

Now I'm still reading up and researching, but right now, I'm opposed to the Orphan Works bills.

If you would like information on the bills:

Orphan Works Act of 2008 as posted in the Library of Congress, legalese and all.

YouTube video of a discussion of the bill at the recent Craft and Hobby Association trade show.

Orphan Works Opposition Headquarters, also has some good info, as well as a petition against the bill, if you are so inclined.
