For [livejournal.com profile] slackeremeritus, a ficbit from Shox's past.

Carefully, Shockwave picked his way between frozen Autobots and Decepticons, sparing barely a glance for comrades and enemies alike. The Shutdown claimed them all, each of them succumbing in turn as their reserves ran down, bodies locked in stasis. Some were still locked in combat, others in throes of pain, still more hidden about in ruins of buildings, and all still as death. Not even a sigh from circling ventilation broke the quiet dark as Shockwave searched about, the gunformer moving with more grace and silence than one might expect.

He paused a moment to take stock of his position and to consult his datapad. He should be close now, he thought. Shockwave had done much since he had awakened; almost two vorns spent searching, rebuilding, repairing, scraping out a bare existence on what fuel he could salvage. The planet was stable now. Not only that, but so much had changed, the very pulse of the Cybertron was not as it was before they were lost. Cybertron had evolved, and in evolving, had found a new way to sustain itself.

And Shockwave had found a way for the planet to also sustain its people.

The very few mini-bots- all Decepticons- he chose to reactivate had responded well to the upgrade, and he had sent them out to catalogue and note the positions of those who still slept. It was time now, he thought, to start awakening small groups of his people. His people…he will not let them fall to such a fate again. They will live. Cybertron will live, and fates and destiny be damned. But after so long, was it possible for them to see past symbols? Will they accept his rule, in any fashion? That remains to be seen. But if his plan is to succeed, there is one who must be convinced first. If he stands against peace, then all Shockwave’s plans will be for naught.

Finally, Shockwave came to stand before a large mech, taller even than the gunformer. He quickly set to work, hooking equipment into systems, testing. His diagnostics confirmed that the other could, in fact, be brought back from stasis. Shockwave made a sound of satisfaction at that; true it would be easier if this one did not ever awake, but he was integral to Shockwave’s plans. And what’s more, Shockwave wanted this one to live.

For several minutes he busied himself within the other’s armour, looking for the proper locks and pass codes. He fed the barest minimum of power into the mech, and was rewarded with the pop and hiss of interlocks releasing, and the red, white, and blue armour began to fold away to reveal the slightly smaller, white and silver individual beneath. Shockwave caught the Autobot as he pitched forward, and gently laid him down upon the ground. More work to do then, and in short order he installed an upgrade that allowed the Autobot to draw strength from the planet he always held so dear.

Then came the waiting, long moments spent watching over the Autobot. Eventually, Shockwave’s patience was rewarded and a faint crimson glow began to fill the other’s dark optics. A small groan came from the Autobot as he slowly tested limbs stiff from disuse, but as he registered the gunformer’s presence, he stiffened.

“Welcome back to the land of the living,” Shockwave murmured, “We have much to discuss, Ultra Magnus. And much to do, if we are to save our planet and our people.”
