air_n_darkness | (no subject)

Heading out for Gen-Con Indy tomorrow in the early AM. I get to make the drive myself this year, since Lynson can't take off from work. It's not too bad, not really- its just a bit longer than driving back to Dothan to see the folks.

Anyway, goals for this years Indy:

1) get Jamie Bamber's photo/autograph (Apollo on the New Battlestar Galactica, for those who don't know)
2) get Richard Hatch's photo/autograph (the original Apolloon the old BSG, plays Zarek, on the new BSG)
3) harrass the Mythbusters support staff (yes, they're letting, Tori, Grant, and Kari come out to play. What, you thought they lived at M5?)
4) not make any little kids cry, something that should be much easier since I'm not supposed to be working the Yugioh stage this time.
5) not getting into an arguement with my roommate, a person I like, but have trouble dealing with in large doses. But she lets me play her PSP, so it should be good.
6) get a demo of the WoW TCG, so I can at least pretend I know what I'm taking about when I'm selling the singles online.
7) play in a couple of late-night Dreamblades events...if I feel like standing in line to by those annoying event tickets Gen-Con makes you use
8) work on my fic for RS's first-timers challenge

Not a bad list, and mostly do-able; the WoW demo and the Dreamblades events are the most likely not to happen.

Speaking of Dreamblades,

archmage I think Eric would like it. He likes, Heroclix, doesn't he? I was super impressed with Dreamblades at GAMA back in March, and it take A LOT for a game to impress me anymore.

Dreamblades

It's a pre-painted minis game, but with a totally new engine and original figs.

Well, on the upside, some of the figures are nifty, and the idea is interesting, even if it's just that they made it so they (and players) didn't have to be bogged down to any one genre. On the downside, though, it seems to be a little bit needlessly complicated, too much going on. Like any game, I'm sure you'd get used to it, but sheesh. It's definitely way out of Erik's reach, that's for sure.

Still, some pretty minis, and some cool names.

It took me about 2 rounds...15 mins or so..when demoed it at Gama to get the basics down. Of course I had watched the previous game. Once you have the rules down, a game can be played in about half an hour.

It helps if you've played Magic and other CCG's; they're trying to bridge the gap between minis players and CCG 'ers.

Ah well, I couldn't really remember how old Eric was. I just remember you mentioning Clix and Pirates.

Oh, yeah, absolutely. He's 10, but he has a bit of a problem with focus, etc. He liked the Clix, but more for the cool figures than actually playing the game. ;)
