An anecdote from the weekend in New York:
Backstory: we were working a professional level tournament for the Marvel and DC VS.System TCG (tradable card game) made by Upper Deck Entertainment (UDE). I would like to point out that the VS staff for UDE rocks the casbah, as they paid for everything the flight and hotel, gave us each $200.00 for the weekend in "food money" PLUS about $1200 worth of product. AND kept a staff of ...what's the plural for masseuse? to soothe the aching backs and shoulders of the staff. That being said:
THANK GOD THEY AREN'T ON THE RESEARCH TEAM!!!
I'm jokingly harassing the "top man" about how unfair it is that the Competitor badges had pics of Ghost Rider, while the Staff got stuck w/ the X-statix, AND that they used Blade, Ghost Rider, and Zarathos on the draft screens (picture a DM screen). All stuff that staff "technically" doesn't get. Then he made a mistake:
Top Guy: "I never got the whole Ghost Rider thing, 'Hey, I'm Johnny Blaze with a mystical flaming chain....'"
Me, interrupting with a voice dripping in disdain. "No, It's Dan Ketch with the mystical chain and Penance Stare, Johnny Blaze as (a) possessed by demon Zarathos (1970's) or (b) with a shotgun that shoots Hellfire (1990's), or Zarathos, nasty demon whose true origins have been so screwed up by Marvel that THEY don't even know what's going on. The recent "Johnny Blaze as Ghost Rider again" mini-series bullshit was made to pre-cursor the movie that will likely make me blow up a theater in disgust."
Top Guy: "ooookaayyy, so see me sunday after tear down and I'll give you the badge and draft screen.....just don't hurt me"
He's a really a super-nice guy, but I couldn't stop myself from the automatic Fangirl tirade. We laughed about it for the rest of the weekend:)
BTW that shirt (and an extra GR badge;) will be going out to you this week, Frank:)
